Meet Kevin

I’m a Father, Engineer, and City Board Chair

Hello! My name is Kevin Kozlowski and I’m running for Birmingham City Commission. I’m a native of Michigan and Oakland County, a father of two young children, a software engineer, and Chair of the Birmingham Advisory Parking Committee. I’m running to serve this City which has been so welcoming to me, and to ensure it remains the best place to live in Michigan for decades to come. I would be honored to have your vote, and look forward to the opportunity to serve you.

Father, Husband, and Michigan Native

My wife Jess and I started dating in high school in Rochester Hills. Our work took us to many different locations after graduating, but we always knew we’d return to Michigan. We looked all over Metro Detroit for a home, but when we looked at Birmingham, we knew it was the place we wanted to raise our family. Since moving here we’ve had two children, Blaise and Stella. Now, I want to do my part to give back to this community and make it the best possible place for my children to grow up.

Making the Numbers Work

I’ve always loved math. After doing my undergraduate degree in Mathematics at the University of Michigan and my Masters in Management Finance at Case Western Reserve University, I found a job doing financial software development at Bloomberg LP in New York. When my wife moved to Boston for graduate school, I found a new role in software development at Amazon working on data management for the Alexa team. I now work remotely for Glencoe Software on scientific image data management software. As a Commissioner, I will bring my focus on data, efficiency, and making the numbers work to deliver the best outcomes for my neighbors.

Public Service

Since moving back to Michigan, I’ve been working to put down roots and become a dedicated part of the community. I’ve come to realize more and more the debt I owe citizens and neighbors who came before me for dedicating their time, care, and ingenuity to making our home the wonderful place it is today. I want to pay that debt forward by doing my part to improve things for the next generation.

With my background in finance, I joined the Advisory Parking Committee to ensure that some of the city’s most valuable assets were on a stable trajectory. I pushed to institute regular parking reports, annual financial reviews, and long-term strategy discussions. I was elected Chair last December and have begun additional efforts to improve customer experience. As a Commissioner, I hope to make this city a little better for everyone here today, as well as for the families of the future.

Community Involvement

I believe powerfully in the importance of community. In addition to my work with the City, I’ve also been doing what I can in other areas as well. My family attends Birmingham Unitarian Church, where I have served on the Membership Committee and am currently on the Strategic Planning Team. In an era of increasing isolation, I’m proud to be working toward bringing people together to build new relationships and strengthen old ones.
